Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (PS3)

As a huge Potter fan, you'd think I'd be predisposed to liking the Harry Potter games. And you'd be right. While the last game outing on Wii finally let me realize my nerd dream of being able to cast spells with hand motions, my favorite in the series is, in fact, the Chamber of Secrets; I loved the balance between exploration, puzzles, and action.

Though all the tasks you had to complete weren't directly tied to the storyline, I felt the game captured the spirit of the book quite well. Imagine, then, my excitement at the Half-Blood Prince game, which could take the lessons learned from last year's Wii outing, refine the motion control mechanics, and find that magical balance between exploration, puzzles, and action.

And it would all be based on one of my favorite books in the series, which already brims with intrigue and deep character development! I was really looking forward to popping in my HBP disc, taking up my Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and diving headfirst into J.K. Rowling's rich and storied world, but the game doesn't come close to delivering on the book's exciting promise.
